Forretress

Japanese: フォレトス Foretos

When it gulps down its prey, the inside of its shell is exposed, but to this day, no one has ever seen that sight.

Forretress are dual-type Pokémon. They are both Bug-type and Steel-type Pokémon. They were first introduced during Generation II. They evolve from Pinecos starting at Level 31.

Characteristics

Forretress are large, heavy, spherical Pokémon. They weigh around 125.8 kilograms or 277.3 pounds. They are 1.2 meters tall with a Medium Fast leveling rate. Much of their enormous weight is made up of their shells.

They have no visible arms or legs. Their upper and lower bodies are covered in bumpy steel plates. The outer plates have zigzagging ridges present on top of them. These ridges open back and front, revealing their smoother inner shell.

Their inner shell has four cylindrical spikes on them. Each of these spikes has an open point. There are two black, hollow eyes with large pupils present between these spikes. The contents inside their shells are unknown to trainers and researchers.

They can actively defend themselves from their enemies by shooting pieces of their outer shell’s steel at them. They do so as a reflex instead of a conscious effort to attack them. They open their shell to capture their prey, but the process happens so soon that the naked eye cannot see it.

They live in tropical and temperate forests. They attach themselves to hard tree trunks. Their species are 50% males and 50% females, with no distinct differences between the two. As seen in the anime, they are very loyal Pokémon when under the care of a trainer.
