Unown

Japanese: アンノーン Unknown

This Pokémon is shaped like ancient writing. It is a mystery as to which came first, the ancient writings or the various Unown. Research into this topic is ongoing, but nothing is known.

Unown are Psychic-type Pokémon. They were first introduced during Generation II. They are not known to evolve into any other Pokémon. They have 28 derivative shapes of Unown in Generation III.

There are 26 Latin alphabet characters like plus, question marks, and exclamation marks introduced in Generation III. Up until Generation III, the shapes are determined by their individual values and by personality values in Generation IV.

Characteristics

Unown are small, flat Pokémon. They are shaped like eyes with appendages. They weigh only 5 kilograms or 11 pounds. They are 0.5 meters tall with a Medium Fast leveling rate. Their body looks like letters and punctuation marks.

The bodies are black except for their sclerae. All of their forms have slightly different appearances. All letters have fully opened eyes, while punctuation marks have half-closed eyes. Each of their forms has a counterpart in Latin. They are also said to resemble ancient letters and hieroglyphs.

Their communication can be detected by the Pokegear radio, interpreted as the melody of the Azure Flute. They communicate either by telepathy or electromagnetic waves. Their powers emerge when they come closer to each other.

Some Unown who lose in the Hisui region can sometimes repel Pokeballs with Pokémon inside them. They are capable of reading the thoughts of other living beings. They can also distort reality to suit the dreams and wishes of whoever wishes harm upon them.

They can also suit the dreams of whoever is in control of them. They are extremely rare Pokémon and live in their own dimensions. They stick themselves to ancient engravings whenever they move to the Pokémon world. Hidden power is Unown’s signature move.
