It hardens its shell to protect itself. However, a large impact may cause it to pop out of its shell.
Generation I introduced Metapod as a Bug-type Pokémon. At level 7, it evolves into Caterpie. At level 10, it evolves into Butterfree.
Characteristics
This Pokémon looks like a green chrysalis. At its lower point, several segments make up a crescent-shaped body. Shells of Metapod look like faces, with heavy lids and sharply pointed noses. The back of its shell contains many geometrically shaped projections and portions.
The hard shell protects the soft body of the Metapod during metamorphosis. Despite its rugged exterior, its liquid innards could pop out with a mighty impact, leaving the shell exposed. As a result, they tend to remain still and build new cells for evolution. However, if an enemy discovers them, only hardening their outer shell can prevent them from being found by an enemy. Forests and jungles are home to Metapods. They are naturally hunters by Pikipeks.
